UPCOMING REGION 9 EVENTS
Members of the Round Top Ruggers, Round Top, Texas, will be demonstrating rug hooking at a fiber arts show, "Making Every Stitch Count", which will be held January 30-31, 10am to 4pm, at Washington-on-the-Brazos State Park. The show willl feature artisans demonstrating home arts from the 1800's. There will be a quilt show, and Round Top Rugger Judy Bruns's dulcimer group will perform. Artisans and displays will be located throughout the park, in the restaurant, the Education Center, the Star of the Republic Museum, and the visitor center. Admission: $9 adults, $6 students. FIRST ANNUAL HEART OF TEXAS HOOK-IN, sponsored by the Heart of Texas ATHA chapter in San Antonio, TX, will be Saturday, February 27, from 9:30 to 4:30. The event will be held at the Hill Country Christian Church, 20845 HWY 46W, Spring Branch, TX 78070. Cost of the event is $30, which includes lunch. A check, payable to HEART OF TEXAS, may be mailed to Jo Thompson, 27022 Autumn Glen, Boerne, TX 78006. Plan to come hook all day, or to participate in a proddy class, taught by P.D. Hankamer. You can make a purse ($40) or a stocking ($45) in P.D.'s class. Class reservations must be called ahead, since class size is limited, and are payable at the hook-in. THE STASH SISTERS FIFTH ANNUAL HANKAMER HOOK-IN, April 9-10, will be held at Whites Park, 225 Whites Memorial Park Dr., Hankamer, TX. Hours are Friday from 9-5, and Saturday from 9-3. MISSISSIPPI WOOL DUST SOCIETY ATHA CHAPTER'S THIRD ANNUAL HOOK-IN, JAIL HOUSE ROCK, October 21-23, will be held at the historic Jail House in Canton, Mississippi. The cost for the entire event, from the Thursday evening cocktail reception at the historic Trolio Hotel on the Square (where they filmed "A Time to Kill"), to the two full days of hooking on Friday and Saturday, is $45. The Tulsa Rug Hookers met through the holidays, enjoying a holiday party at the Hardesty Regional Library, where they meet regularly. Everyone brought food to share. Several members of this group have decided to participate in the SEEING RED MAT CHALLENGE, sponsored by Region 9 (see Feb/Mar 2010 issue of ATHA NEWSLETTER for information about SEEING RED).
