I love Thanksgiving. For me it is the holiday that starts out Christmas. Since I married Wade and he hates pumpkin pie, I've been making apple pies. Here is this year's version, a rustic pie. It is my recipe, passed down from my mom who was an expert pie baker. Happy Thanksgiving all!
Rustic Apple Pie
1/2 C white sugar
1/2 C brown sugar
1/4 C white flour
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/8 tsp. nutmeg
6 yellow delicious apples, peeled, cored and sliced
Mix all together in a big bowl. Lay an unbaked pie crust on a cookie sheet or in a large quiche dish. Put apple mixture on top, leaving a couple of inches of crust around the edges. Dot apples with a little butter. Fold up the crust edges over the top of the apples on the diameter.
Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes. Reduce to 350 degrees and bake until bubbly and browned nicely. Cool on a rack. Serve with ice cream on the side.
