I have sewn most of my life (even including clothing when I was a teenager), but never had a serger and couldn't really figure out why I would need one. But recently, I've been wanting to get a serger to finish the edges of my linen foundation and to run around the edges of my rugs before binding off. So this is going to be a whole new fun experience.
I ordered a Brother model from Amazon after reading the reviews and spending the day driving around Houston looking at different models and prices, and not finding any discounts deeper than Amazon (including free shipping). Also bought a book on serging, figuring that there may be other stuff I might want to do with the thing.
The threading looks intimidating, but other than that, it looks like it operates like my sewing machine. Can't wait for the UPS truck.
