Finished hooking Charlie. Bound him with a wool binding to match the outside content of the rug, rather than as a frame. This let's the eye continue to move out of the picture.
I hooked this piece to showcase "light". In this piece, I didn't want just any old light. I wanted Charlie bathed in the moonlight.
I tried to do this by using cool light values on the areas of his face that the moonlight would be hitting most prominently, and then digging deep into the shadow areas with dark warmer values of the same colors. Did it work?
The piece is 18" by 24". I used two 8-value packages each of the following colors of Red Jack Rug Palette Wool:
- Twinkle Periwinkle 156
- Shades of Dusk 123
- Gossamer Gray 131
- Midnight Heath 166
- Highland Lilac 133
- Violet Twilight 132
- Norfolk Lavender 110
For the eyes, I used strips of wool from Palette Packs:
- Lake Agate 127
- Tanglewood 148
Totals on this rug: 9 different colors and 72 different values.
